Not far from the splendid city of Arezzo immersed in the green Tuscan countryside is where you will find the farmhouse Il Saracino. A historic farmhouse skilfully renovated furnished and sub-divided into four apartments. These comfortable apartments are furnished with the best amenities necessary, which include independent heating, living space with kitchen, facilities for the disabled and additional luxuries such as television equipped with satellite.
The farmhouse takes its name from the most captivating and spectacular Italian folkloric event that occurs in Arezzo twice a year, respectively in June and September La Giostra Del Saracino (The Saracen Joust). Infact, thanks to the historical detail that recreates this joust, the town of Arezzo relives the duels that took place in the early Middle Ages between the Christian Knights and the Saracens. The four districts of the town face the challenge:
Porta Crucifera, Porta S. Andrea, Porta Santo Spirito and Porta Del Foro. Two Knights armed with a lance are lined up for each district of the town, they charge towards a mechanical rotating target, which is the Saracens head, aptly named Il Saracino (the Saracen) or buratto re delle indie (king of the Indies).
The geographic position of the farmhouse Il Saracino is extremely advantageous as it is in easy reach of some of the many notable art centres in Italy such as Arezzo, Cortona, Sansepolcro and Anghiari. Also, it is not far from cities like Florence, Siena and Perugia.Arezzo is home to some relevant international works of art such as the frescoes of Piero della Francesca, the logge of Piazza Grande designed by Giorgio Vasari and the famous crucifix by Cimabue in the church of San Domenico. Furthermore, the famous poet Francesco Petrarca and the inventor of the musical scale Guido Monaco were both born in this area.
Every first Sunday of the month, it is possible to visit and stroll through the back streets and alleyways of Arezzos historic centre where the Antique Fair is held.It is one of the most famous fairs in the antique trade, where collectors and antique dealers all over Italy gather together to display and sell their precious antiques. Arezzo also hosts the famous music festival Arezzo Wave, as well as the now historic Polyphonic contest.Just outside the city you will find the new Arezzo Equestrian Centre.
